WHO Cambodia is inviting applications for one position as TECHNICAL OFFICER For Applied Epidemiology Training t (on Special Service Agreement – SSA)

The World Health Organization as a Specialized Agency of the United Nations system is providing technical support to the government of the Kingdom of Cambodia to train Ministry of Health rapid response teams on basic field epidemiology. To further enhance its support to government, the WHO office in Cambodia will contract one Technical Officer on a full-time basis for twelve months beginning Jan 15,2010. The Technical Officer will be based at designated Government Offices in Phnom Penh, Cambodia; with support costs being met by WHO. Applications from women are encouraged.

Terms of reference

Under the supervision of Communicable Disease Surveillance Team Leader and in coordination with the Cambodia Applied Epidemiology Training Programme Manager and Resident Advisor, the person selected will:

  • Prepare the annual work and financial plan for the program and present it to the Advisory Board for approval. Implement the approved work plan in coordination with the rest of the Program Management Team (PMT) and other partners;
  • Facilitate recruitment and selection (by the advisory board) of trainees;
  • Finalize training curriculum with resident advisor and program manager;
  • Recruit field supervisors and match them with the selected trainees and facilitate the conduct of a workshop for field supervisors;
  • Facilitate conduct of didactic sessions in collaboration with partners;
  • Be a trainer during didactic sessions;
  • Facilitate field visits by supervisors and outbreak investigations by trainees with their supervisors;
  • Be a field supervisor for assigned trainee;
  • Facilitate evaluation of pilot course in collaboration with partners;
  • Set-up and maintain program office (including database and collection of training materials)
  • Other duty as instructed by the supervisors.

Qualifications required

Education: Medical Degree is essential. Having an MPH degree or having graduated from a certified FETP programme is desirable.

Experience and skills:

Has minimum of two years experience in Cambodian Governmental Health Sector at provincial or national level. Has effective communication skills; core management competencies; ability to work in team and individually.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English; knowledge of Khmer essential.
